Commander Gart Broox is the main character in Callin’ Baton Rouge, a fanfiction story written by Little_kingsfan2005. He is a wholly original character – a product of the author’s imagination, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.
Captain of the U.S.S. Baton Rouge, Commander Gart Broox is a 30-year veteran of Starfleet. Unlike many officers, Broox did not attend Starfleet Academy, but earned his commission through the Starfleet Officer Candidate School after completing his doctorate in Xenology from the University of Betazed; he also has an undergraduate degree in Mythology.
He began his Starfleet career as a Science Officer, specializing in xenology, but eventually transferred to the command track. As a Lieutenant, Broox attended the Starfleet Command Staff College (a subsect of the Starfleet Postgraduate School), where he specialized in starship operations and earned a Master of Military Art and Science degree. As a Lieutenant Commander, Broox served as Chief of Operations at Starbase G-6 (the closest starbase to Betazed); he was reassigned after the Dominion overtook Betazed and the starbase was temporarily abandoned. After spending three years as First Officer of the Galaxy-class starship U.S.S. San Francisco (NCC-74780), Commander Broox was assigned as commanding officer of the Baton Rouge; like all shipmasters, this entitles him to be addressed as “Captain” although he holds the Starfleet rank of Commander. His immediate commander is Vice Admiral Vex No Bron, the Commanding Admiral of the 1st Fleet.
Broox is a classic “father to his men” kind of captain – he knows the name of every one of his junior officers and enlisted crewmembers and takes great pride in mentoring them. When a new crewmember comes aboard, he meets with them personally in his ready room and conducts a basic informational interview.
Broox does not expect perfection from his crew; only their best. He is well aware that mistakes are made, having made his share, and tends to tell his subordinates exactly what they did wrong and then expects them not to make that same mistake again. He is generally announced at the beginning of each duty shift and upon his entry to department offices (i.e. Main Engineering) with “Captain on the bridge/on deck”.
Commander Broox and the crew of the U.S.S. Baton Rouge were the first ship to respond when a warship from an alternate timeline, the E.F.S. Illustrious under the command of Princeps Senior Jean-Luc Picard, entered their area of operations. The Baton Rouge was no match for the Illustrious, and they were quickly disabled. Illustrious was ultimately driven back to their universe by most of the entire 1st Fleet, along with the Enterprise-E.

Personal life Edit
Broox grew up in the city of Rixx on Betazed. He is a family man; he has been married twice (once divorced, once widowed) and has three children, all of whom are now grown ups. In his youth (and since his divorce), he was regarded as a ladies man. Having aged from handsome to distinguished, Broox has black-colored eyes and silver hair, along with a salt-and-pepper goatee. His ex-wife and the mother of two of his three children, Lyara Broox, is a Deltan who kept his last name after the divorce.
One of the saddest days of his life was the day the Dominion conquered Betazed. He was overjoyed when Starfleet was able to liberate the planet, but his joy was tempered by melancholy when he heard about the price that freedom cost (40% of the Betazoids who used their telepathy to incapacitate the Jem’Hadar occupying force perished in the battle). While duty unfortunately kept him from attending the Starfleet memorial in the aftermath of the liberation, he used his first shore leave after the war to visit his homeworld and personally survey the damage.
Superpowers, weapons and equipment Edit
Like most members of Starfleet, Broox carries a Type-2 phaser as his standard sidearm. He is a competent marksman and a fair hand-to-hand combatant. He is also an average-level telepath for a Betazoid, capable of reading most surface thoughts without much difficulty. On occasion, Broox will give orders to his crew telepathically.
